The JAK/STAT signaling pathway contributes to the immune response which causes GvHD1

GvHD is the primary immunological complication to allogeneic HSCT , it is the second leading cause of death in patients undergoing allogeneic HSCT, behind only mortality from primary disease2.

There are two types of GvHD: acute and chronic. Acute GvHD manifests within 100 days of HSCT. Chronic GvHD has a delayed onset beyond 100 days Although features of aGVHD and cGVHD may coexist3.

In GvHD, donor derived immune cells view the recipient’s body as foreign and attack normal cells4.

JAK-STAT Signaling pathways play a role in regulating the development, proliferation, and activation of several immune cell types important for GvHD pathogenesis1.

GvHD, graft-versus-host disease ; HSCT , hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
