Heart Failure Introduction

The prevalence and incidence rates of HF in Egypt are increasing1, a serious condition in which the heart can not pump blood efficiently. This can lead to symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, and fluid buildup in the lungs and legs.2

Here, you can explore more about heart failure: its symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options.

Heart Failure in Egypt

While global estimates suggest a prevalence of 1-2% of the general adult population in developed countries3, the prevalence of HF in Egypt has significantly increased despite prevention and management measures taken. The age-standardized HF rate per 100,000 people increased from 894 in 1990 to 1030 in 2017, a 15.2% increase. This represents a high burden on both, the patients and healthcare system. The mean age of HF in Egypt is lower than the global mean age by 10 years, which is reflected on the socio-economic burden of the disease on the country.1
